12/20 Torch Time Rules  Please be aware that there has been an update to the rules for Torch Rental. The new rule states: "Members may not use torch time to teach for hire." Click here to view and/or print the entire set of rules.
12/20 Lovely Lentils  Andree Kosak's lentil beads made with frit are featured on the Spiral Design's website.  Take a peek - her beads are lovely and her lentils are perfect.  Maybe at one of our meetings she'll give us a few pointers.
12/20 New Bead Stores  We understand that Cohen Company has move from Atlanta to Loganville and changed its name to Wanna Go Bead.  Also, we hear that a new bead store Atlanta Bead Market opened last month in Buford.  To see the information we have about them click the Atlanta Bead Stores button on the right.
12/20 June Moon Jewelry  Joan Houghton-Theall has a new website Click here to check out www.junemoonjewelry.com   Her daughter did the design and the design is as lovely as Joan's jewelry and beads.
12/20 Bead Release  The fall issue of the ISGB Bead Release magazine has been mailed. Marcy Lamberson has a wonderfully written and illustrate article on the work of Rita Maya Burkholder. And Linda Edmunds has a bead and poem (sort of) in Jim Kervin's article on Dog Beads.  There is also a photo of Gerri White with the Quilt she made for the ISGB Gathering Auction.  Andree Kosak is also in the photo.
12/08 Kim Runge ROCKS!!!  ISGB has just announced the artists who have been accepted for the Trajectories Exhibit and Catalog.  This has been the most prestigious competition in the glass bead world this year and  has attracted entries from  well known  artists all over the world.  Only the best of the best made it and our own Kim Runge ia now numbered among them.  Talk about Glory after Forty -  Congratulations Kim!!!  Click here to see the entire Trajectories list.

NOVEMBER 2005
11/19 Pam Dugger Classes Pam Dugger will be teaching two 2-day classes in February (16/17 & 18/19).  The lottery for the classes will be held at our next meeting on Wed !2/14.  If you cannot attend the meeting, your completed lottery form and check must reach our treasurer by Monday 12/12.  Click here more information about the class and for the lottery form.   Pam teaches a wonderful class in  sculptural bead making based on hollow forms.  While Pam makes primarily birds and fishes, many other sculptural forms can be derived from the principals that she demonstrates.  The Web Mama's angels and mermaids, for example, were derived from skills she learned from Pam in a class several years ago. 
11/19 Marcia Manuel - Holiday Show 12/3  Marcia Manuel will have her lampwork featured in Art on Freyer Holiday Show and Sale on Saturday December 3, 10AM to 5PM.  The show will be at 211 Freyer Drive, Marietta GA 30060.  In addition to Marcia's lampwork, the show will include Oil & Watercolor paintings, beaded and polymer clay jewelry, quilts, embroidered linens and christening gowns, metal sculpture, primitive blacksmith items, stained class, mixed media, scarves, shawls, photography, painted and handcrafted glass accessories, handbags, wind chimes, and handmade soaps.  For more information  call 770-427-7331 or 770-309-7774.
11/19 Brina Beads  This beadstore is located in Buckhead across the street from East Andrews cafe.  It features beads, findings, jewelry, classes and according to one visitor "The women in there are really nice, and the store is always full of people shopping and making jewelry."  For address/ phone to to to their website or check under the 'Atlanta Bead Stores' button to the right.
11/14 Cutting Stringer  Did you ever have trouble cutting cold stringer because the stringer is thin and the gap on your glass cutters is too wide.  Try this great trick that Pat O'Brien shared with the Web Mama.  Use a jewelry pliers - an end cutting nipper.  You can buy one for about five dollars or find a used one that has become too dull to cut wire.  You will use it all the time.
11/14 Scrapbook Photos  Photos from the November meeting are now in the scrapbook.  So many beautiful beads this month - Kristen's, Member jewelry, Floral Challenge beads and Holiday Tree contributions.  See them all.
11/8 Holiday Tree Raffle  The November meeting will include not only a demo by Kristen Frantzen Orr but also the raffle for the Holiday Tree.  Please make some beads to decorate the tree and bring them with you.  For each ornament you bring, you will get a free raffle ticket.  You and/or your guests can buy additional raffle tickets at the meeting.  Click here to see a tree from years past.
11/8 Gathering Scholarship Southern Flames will fund another scholarship for the 2006 Gathering.  The ISGB Website will have details about how to apply.  Last year SF had 3 Scholarship winners so if you are interested in finding out about what is required of Scholarship recipients you can talk to Carl Andrews, Renee Taylor or Stacia Schmidt.
11/8 Web Site Changes  The Board had decided to eliminate two sections of the SF Web Site.  1) We are deleting the Swap n Shop section because there have been very few postings - none, in fact, since last April.  If you do have something to sell or swap, send the Web Mama a note and we can put a note up under announcements.  2)We have maintained two calendars on our site - Critical Dates and the Classes and Events Calendar.  Since they are redundant, the decision was made to keep the Critical Dates calendar only.  It is easier to maintain and quicker to scan for information.  Since we have removed these two section, perhaps we can create two new ones.  Have a good idea? Send it to the Web Mama.
11/2 Beads by Design Schedule   The class schedule for Beads by Design for November, December and January is now available. 
11/2 Artisan Resource Center Open House Beads by Design and the other studios in their building complex will be hosting an open house with demos and food on:
  • Friday November 18 5-9 PM
  • Saturday November 19 11-5 PM
  • Sunday November 20 1-4 PM
11/2 Creative Spirit Gallery MOVING!   Creative Spirit Gallery owned by past Southern Flames co-president, Becky Sizemore, is moving from Oakhurst to Decatur early this month.  Congratulations, Becky  and we will post the address and directions when we hear that the move is complete.

OCTOBER 2005
10/20  Correction October Meeting  Our October meeting is on SATURDAY 10/29.  The date was correct but the day was listed incorrectly on the index to the right.  (Thank you Rick Hidding for sending us a note about this and please if you notice an error or can identify a bead artist or member on our Website, please let the Web Mama know.
10/20 Beads of Courage - BOTTOM LINE   After we posted the Beads of Courage info (see 10.13) Robert Simmons sent this note: 

The flyer that I copied for you is an explanation of the over all picture and I had to contact them for a clarification.  The big list of beads and colors are for commercially made beads that they purchase and give to the kids.  The hand made beads are only for the 'Milestones' at the bottom of the page.  They'll accept just about any hand made beads for the milestones and the kids get to pick their special bead from an assortment.  The only specific milestone bead is the purple heart for completion of treatment." 

Bottom Line:  Handmade glass beads are only given for Milestones and Milestone beads can be any color and any design - kids get to pick what they want.  In addition they also want purple hearts and butterflies.

10/20 ISGB Membership Renewal Its time to renew your ISGB membership and your renewal forms should be arriving soon.  Because Southern Flames is formally connected to the ISGB, only SF members who are also ISGB members can be on the Board, apply for Gathering Scholarships, receive the Bead Release, be listed in the National directory  and more.  If you are not currently a member and would like to join, click here for more information about benefits and a membership application.
10/13 Beads of Courage - MORE INFO Robert Simmons sent us some more information  (and please see above 10/20) about the Beads of Courage Program that supports children coping with cancer.  We are posting part of the program's brochure here in hopes that you will support it by making and sending beads.

"How does the program work? Upon enrollment each child is given the Beads of Courage bead color guide. The Beads of Courage journey begins when each child is given a length of string and beads that spell out their first name.  Then, colorful beads of courage, each representing a different treatment milestone are given to the child by their healthcare provider to add to their Beads of Courage collection throughout their treatment"

10/13 The Bead Bungalow - Fayettesville  Martha English manager of The Bead Bungalow in Fayettesville dropped us a note asking that we add the Bead Bunglalow to our list of Bead Stores in the Atlanta area. She writes that the store is located right off Hwy 85 in the middle of Fayetteville and has a huge selection of semi precious, crystals, glass, plastic, and all kinds of beads and findings.  Classes are offered on Saturdays and assistance is offered during the week with your own projects if you need it. Martha continues " I know your site is a well used site and there are probably people that live near here and don't even know we exist.  Putting us on your web site could benefit a lot of your members." 10/4 Holiday Sales Kim Runge will be selling her beads and jewelry at the Marist Holiday Traditions Sale on Sat Oct 29 from 9AM to 4PM  and at Apple Annie (St Ann's Church in Marietta)  on Friday, 12/2  9AM-7PM and Saturday 12/3 9AM-2:30PM. 10/2 Beads of Courage  This innovative program, out of Tucson, Arizona, is designed to support children who are being treated for cancer.  Beads are given to the children as a way of marking significant events that occur during the course of the disease and many of the beads have been made by ISGB artists.  If you are interested in knowing more about this program or if you want to contribute beads, please check out the Beads of Courage Website.
10/2 A. J. Pollack Demo Photos  Photos of the Andrew Jackson Pollack demo at the September Meeting are now available in the Scrapbook. Many, many thanks to Bonnie Anderson for taking all of the demo photos which let you follow the making of a goblet even if you were not able to be at the meeting.  Also posted are other photos from the September Meeting taken by Bonnie, Robert Simmons and Joan Houghton-Theall.
 

SEPTEMBER 2005
9/15 Kate McKinnon - Resource Library Kate McKinnon a well-known beader and jewelry maker, who donated a copy of her first book to our Resource Center, has just donated the second volume to it too.  The title of the first book is Project Workbook 2003; the new one is titled Studio Annual 2004. If you have not checked out Kate's website or her books, you are missing out on both a visual and educational treat.  She makes and sells beautiful silver findings as well as some very unusual and sophisticated beading kits.
9/15 Trajectories Deadline   The deadline for submitting entries to the Trajectories Show at the Bead Museum has been extended to Oct 1.  For more information, go to the ISGB Website.
9/15 Diane Kovach Classes Diane Kovach is teaching a series of individual and group beadmaking classes in Alpharetta, Chamblee, Roswell, Marietta, Cumming, Woodstock and Kennesaw.  For more information, check out Class Page on Diane's website.
9/2 Bead by Design Classes The Beads by Design class schedule for September and October is now available.
9/2 Pam Dugger Lottery The lottery for Pam Dugger's February class will be in December.
9/2 Jim Kervin / Bronwen Heilman Jim Kervin has a new book in his series on well know glass artists.  This one is about Bronwen Heilman's and describes in detail her techniques for painting on glass.  At the August meeting, Margo announced that Jim Kervin had bought the quilt the Gerry White made as well as beads made by Sara Hoyt, Stacia Schmidt, and Linda Edmunds.
9/2 Glass Alchemy Glass   If you use Glass Alchemy glass, Marjorie Gore can get you a discount.
9/2 Resource Center Additions The Resource Center now has Lucio Bubacco tapes, the Dots book by Deanna Griffin Dove and Brad Pearson as well the new Kimberley Adams book which has a chapter includes a chapter on flower beads also written by Deanna.
 

AUGUST 2005
8/23 Kristen Frantzen Orr Lottery The lottery for the classes to be taught by Kristen Frantzen Orr in November will be held at the Sept 21st meeting. Class information and the lottery form is now available on our website.
8/23 Trajectories An Exhibition Deadline  Trajectories will explore the evolution of contemporary glass beadmaking, showcasing both early and recent work of beadmaking artists. The exhibition is jointly hosted by the International Society of Glass Beadmakers and The Bead Museum , Glendale, Arizona.  Deadline for submission of entries is September 16.  Go to the ISGB site for more information.
8/23 New Member Link We have just added Darlene Balkcum's Website, "Treasures from the Flame" to the Links page. Check it out! 
8/10 Garage Sale Forms We will be having a Garage Sale at our next meeting on August 27th.  For each item that you bring to swap or sell, you will need to complete a form that will be displayed with the item.  If you would like to fill out your forms in advance, click here.  You can type in the information and then print it out.
8/7 Bonnie Anderson / Brian Renoud  Bonnie Anderson was on hand to take photos of Brian Renoud's demo on making "Inside-Out" beads with Borosilicate tubing.  Bonnie also put together the scrapbook page for the July Meeting.  Check it out and thank you Bonnie and Brian.
8/7 Beading Circle Website  There is a new website for beaders and beadmakers which you may find very useful because it lists all of the stores and shows in the Atlanta area with addresses, hours and phone numbers, and web sites for each store.  It also includes notices of sales, store coupons and classes.  Take a peek - we will be adding it to our links but you may also want to book mark it. 
8/4 Bead Fest  Don't forget that Bead Fest is next weekend - Friday through Sunday August 12-14th at the Georgia Convention Center which is about a mile from the airport on Camp Creek Parkway. If you go to the BeadFest website, there is a discount coupon for admission. 
8/4 Gathering Photos  Check the Scrapbook to see some photos from the Gathering.  Anyone who has more photos to share, send them to the Web Mama so we can put them in the Scrapbook.
8/4 Dots: The Definitive Guide  Deanna Griffin-Dove and Brad Pearson have just published a new book full of techniques they use for creating designs with dots.  If Gerry doesn't have copies at Beads by Design, you can email Deanna or Brad to purchase a copy.
8/4 SF Buttons Todd, one of our newest members, made wonderful Southern Flames Buttons for all of us to wear at the Gathering.  Thank you, Todd.  See the Scrapbook for a photo of the button.
8/4 Bead Release  Marcy Lamberson has a wonderful article on Cathy Lybarger's beads in the Summer edition of the Bead Release.  There is also a photo of one of Linda Edmund's Mallards in Jim Kervin's series "Exploring Bead Themes" - this issue's theme is Birds.  And don't forget to check the Eye Candy section at the back of the magazine. It includes one of Patsy Evin's amazing Iris beads.
8/4 2005 Gathering Postcard The new Gathering Postcard, photographed and designed by Sara Hoyt is now posted on our home page. There is a link below the image that will take you to a larger version and show you the names of the artists who contributed the beads.  A copy of the postcard was also used as a display on the Southern Flames table at the Gathering Bead Bazaar- see Sara's photos of it in the Scrapbook.  And speaking of Sara, two of her beads are featured in Kimberley Adams new book on Lampworking that was just published.
 

JULY 2005
7/9 2005 Gathering Postcard The new Southern Flames Postcard has been printed and sent off to be included in the 2005 ISGB Postcard Boxes.  Sara Hoyt did a beautiful job of taking the photos, designing the card, and getting it produced.  Thank you, Sara!  If you would like to see it, it will be available at our next meeting.  After the Gathering it will also be on our Home Page.
7/9 Sylvie Unique Sylvie Elise Lansdowne is the featured artist in this month's issue of Bead Unique.  Check it out and Congratulations Sylvie!
7/9 Diane Korvach at Bead Fest  Diane Korvach will be teaching a class on Kumihimo Braided Necklace at Beadfest Atlanta.  For more information about this class, click on Kumihimo.  Diane also teaches Beadmaking and Beading techniques.  And she has a variety of Bead displays available for order on her website DK Designs.  Diane writes that Bead Fest Atlanta will be the largest Bead show to be held in Atlanta since the Bead Expo in the 1990's.

Karen Keegan who is coordinating the event and has been communicating with Southern Flames writes that the " Georgia Convention center is less than 5 minutes from the airport to their front door. Adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the GICC is at the juncture of Interstate Highways 75 and 85, and near east/west I-20."

6/19 Chattanooga Retreat  Marjorie Langston writes that an additional Bead Retreat is being scheduled in Novemeber because the first one filled up so quickly.   "The dates will be November 4, 5 and 6 - we'll get started about 9:00 on Friday morning and finish up late Sunday afternoon.  The cost is $175.00." Please get in touch with Marjorie to sign up or for additional information. 
6/19 Membership Cards Nita VanTil has printed and laminated Membership cards for all Southern Flames members.  You will need this card if you want to rent a SF torch at Beads by Design.  Cards were passed out at the June meeting.  If you need to have your card before the July meeting please send Nita VanTil a note.
6/19 Gathering Beads We could still use about 50 more beads for the Gathering Tote Bags.  If you have made any or are willing to make some, please get in touch with Stacia Schmidt.
6/2 Glory After Forty Kim Runge, whose business is called Glory After Forty will be selling beads at  "Market at the Works"  on Friday June 3, 4 and 5.  The market is open on Friday and Sat from 10 AM to 6PM.   On Sunday the hours are Noon to 5PM.  Admission is $3.00 with part going to charity. 5/18 Scrapbook Updated Photos including many taken by Robert Simmons and Debbie Neis of the May meeting, Brad Pearson's demo, beads and classes are now available in the Scrapbook.  Check out Brian Renoud's inside out beads.
5/18 Rental Torches Available Again Starting Monday May 16th, torches are available for rental by Southern Flames members for $5.00 an hours at Beads by Design.  The rules for reserving  and using these tools are available here.  Please read them if you intend to make use of this member benefit..
5/18 Second Annual Hot Time in the Mountains:A Beadmakers' Extravaganza on September 23, 24, 25, 2005 at A Touch of Glass in Asheville, NC   Marjorie Langston writes that this will be a "weekend full of beads and beadmakers, a weekend full of discovery. We welcome all beadmakers with experience on a torch. 30 torches will be set up at A Touch of Glass for a unique learning experience ...There will be 30-60 minute beadmaking demonstrations at 9am and 2pm. each day… torches will be available from 9am to 9pm. Demonstrators this year include: Brad Pearson (makes the most beautiful beads using masking techniques); Kimberley Adams, author of "The Complete Book of Beadmaking", (demo on creating shards and their use); Nita Van Til (sculptural demo) and Margo Knight (do you believe she actually sculpts hollow beads?!)  Feel free to bring beads to trade or sell. We certainly want to encourage these activities, so after clean-up on Sunday (and while the kilns are cooling) we’ll have a mini-bazaar." 5/9 Bead Making Extravaganza Lots and lots of you participated in the all day Bead Making Extravaganza last Saturday.  It was  wonderfully organized for maximum productivity and fun. Thank you Nita!  We took some photos in the morning which you can see in the Scrapbook and we hope you will send us lots more that we can put up for everyone to see.
5/9 BeadFest Atlanta - Volunteers Needed BeadFest is having a big show in Atlanta on August 12, 13 & 14, at the GA Int'l Convention Center (adjacent to the airport). Show time as Friday: Noon - 7 PM; Sat: 10 AM - 7 PM; Sunday: 11 AM - 5 PM. Classes will be held all three days, too - those are still being planned, but will be on the BeadFest website soon www.beadfest.com  Karen Keegan the show organizer would love to have volunteers if anyone can work the show - mostly just being at the doors to the show to make sure that people have paid - a very low stress job! The show is offering free admission to anyone who does help out. If anyone can donate an hour or two, it's will be a big help! If you want to volunteer you can contact Karen via email.
5/7 Spruill Center Lampworking Classes  There have been some corrections to the Spruill Class schedule which are not yet reflected on their Website.  Margo Knight is teaching only the Intermediate Class.  Taking over the Beginning Class is Southern Flames treasurer Kim Runge - (her beads are like jewels). The Beginning class will run for 8 sessions (2 1/2 hrs each).  Classes will be on Thursday starting 6/16, and continuing  on6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 8/4, 8/11 (last class).
5/7 Spruill Center Lampworking Classes (Corrected 5/9 - See Above) Margo Knight has been teaching lampworking for years at the Spruill Center for the Arts located in Dunwoody. She is an amazing beadmaker and teacher. This summer she is offering 2 courses. The first is "Beginning Bead Making"  which runs for NINE sessions on Thursdays 7:30 - 9:30 PM - starts June 16th.  The second is "Intermediate/Continuing Glass Beadmaking" - Saturdays 10AM to 1:30 - FIVE sessions starting June 25.  For more information about each class and to register go to http://www.spruillarts.org/Courses/glass1.htm  or  call Spruill at 770-394-3447.  Taking a series of classes is the best way for new beadmakers to learn a variety of basic techniques and for continuing beadmakers to extend their range.

4/19 This Weekend -April 23and 24. It's Inman Park Festival Weekend.  This is a wonderful festival of arts and crafts and it includes a parade and house tour.  What is more important about this festival is that KIM RUNGE, our hardworking SF Treasurer is going to have a booth.  And if you have noticed the beads she has been wearing and making during the past few months, you are not going to want to miss visiting her.  For directions and more information about the festival, click here.
4/19 This Weekend -April 23   Southern Flames member Patsy Evins is going to have a show of both her beads and her paintings at the Creative Spirit Gallery. The Beads will be shown from noon to 3PM on Sat, the 23rd.  The paintings will continue to be shown to mid-May.   Click here for directions. DEADLINE Gathering Postcard Beads  Sara Hoyt has just announced the deadline giving her the beads for the Gathering Postcards.  It is Sat May 14.  Click here for the form that has to be submitted. Sara writes: 

 

      "It's time to start making your bead for the 2005 Southern Flames postcard!

      Let's see how well we can represent the Southern Flames this year. I have all of the previous year's postcards on my refrigerator at home, and it's really neat to see how we've grown in our beadmaking skills.

       There are no restrictions on the size, shape, or color of your bead, so make your favorite bead and submit it. All beads are welcome. This is a chance to show off your work! I will take good care of them, and return them to you when the postcard is finished.

       Our web mamma has posted a form you will need to fill out and submit. Email me if you have any problems or questions. This form includes directions on how to package your bead, and the information you need to provide about your work. 

      I'll use it to keep track of your bead, and to make sure it's photographed from the prospective you want.

      The last day you can submit your beads is Saturday, May 14th.**No exceptions**

3/15 Gathering Postcard Beads - Sara Hoyt who will be photographing our beads and designing the SF Postcard has just announced the deadline for bead submission.   Deadline will be our May meeting in Mid may.  Please check back in a week or so for the exact date and the form too submit with your bead.

3/13 BOARD NOMINATIONS & ELECTIONS - Election of officers to the Board of the Southern Flames will be held at our April meeting on Saturday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Beads by Design. We will need to have the finalized slate of candidates prepared and distributed to the membership by April 1, so that members who will not be able to attend the April meeting may vote by e-mail. Therefore, we are soliciting nominations for next year's board members. Please email Kristy Nijenkamp with nominations by March 31.  Self nominations are welcomed but you must be a member of ISGB to serve on the Board.

3/13 Painted Violins Show - Week of March 20 to 26. The  Creative Spirit Gallery will host "3 Painted Violins" in conjunction with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. 3/13 WC Bead Calendar - The bead calendar that Sara Hoyt created for Wet Canvas is now available.  It is beautifully designed with at least a hundred or more bead photos from artists all over the country including lots of our own SF members.  You can see the the calendar and order a copy by going to the Cafe Press website. 3/2 The Complete Book of Glass Beadmaking This soon-to-be-published book by Kimberly Adams which features beads by Sara Hoyt and a chapter on Flowers by Deanna Griffin Dove, can be preordered (plus you can see the cover) at Amazon.com  Sara writes that beads by Marjorie Langston and other SF members are also included.
3/2 BEAD FEST in Atlanta  There will be a Bead Fest Show in Atlanta in August 12-13 at the Georgia International Convention Center. Classes in beading and jewelry construction will run on the 11-13.  The class schedule has not been posted yet but if you are interested in what Bead Fest offers in some of  its other locations or if you want to download an application for a booth, go to www.beadfest.com.  BeadFest is sponsored by Lapidary Journal and Step by Step Beads.

2/20 Brad Pearson Classes  Information about the two classes that Brad Pearson will be teaching in May (12-15) is now available as are the two lottery forms - one for the Shaping Class and one for the Large Mandrel Class.  Each class will be offered twice and each is $125.  Either bring your checks and lottery forms to our March 9 meeting or send them to Kim Runge by March 7.

1/29 Bead Release Features SF Members.  If you have received your copy of the most recent ISGB Bead Release (Fall 2004), you will pleased to see how many of our Southern Flame members appear in it.  There is a photo of Stephanie White in an article authored by Andree Kozak about Kristina Logan's class in Province. authored the article.  There is a book review of 1000 Beads by Walter Green.. In Marcy Lamberson's Southeast Regional report, there is a photo of Joan Houghton-Theall and some of her silver-capped beads.  Also mentioned are Sylvie Lansdowne, Don Meadows, Margo Knight, Jerri Roey, Sara Hoyt, Kristy Nijenkamp, Rick Hidding and even the yours truly, the Web Mama!  Thanks to Marcy for representing us so well.

1/23 New Book and Tool in Resource Center.  Miriam Works book, "The Artist as Entrepreneur. A Business and Marketing Guide for Artists and Craftspeople." Kristy Nijemkamp write that it is "chock full of good information that I hear asked all the time from members." In addition, a tool that Jen Geldard uses to make petals (5 1/4 wire bending pliers) is also available.
1/22 Thank you Ed Manfiafico!  The Board is grateful to Ed Manfiafico who helped to draft a new  release form for students to sign when taking classes sponsored by Southern Flames.
1/22 Spotlight on Magic Color Reactions.  The most recent  issue of Corina Tettinger's Spotlight features Beads by Carl Andrews and Darlene Balkcum.  (Congratulations!) The issue is available at Beads by Design. 
1/22 Stacia Schmidt Coordinating Gathering Beads.  Southern Flames has agreed to assist Louisville by making beads to be attached to the Gathering Bags.   500 beads in flame colors - Red, Orange, and Yellow, made on 3/32 mandrels and  3/4" - 1" in diameter are needed.  Stacia Schmidt has agreed to coordinate this activity and Lewanda Hardy has contributed the first group of beads. (Thank you!)  Later in the year we will sponsor some group bead-making activities but please, please make some at home to contribute - every bead is needed.
1/22 Sylvie Lansdowne Class $125!!.  The price for Sylvie Lansdowne's 2-day class is $125.  This is an amazing price for what will be a wonderful class - lottery forms are available here. 1/22 New DVD in Resource Center.  A new DVD is available for loan from our resource center.  It is called  "World On a String" and is the first part of a history of beads.  Margo Knight highly recommends it. 
1/14 Sylvie Lansdowne Classes.  Our own Sylvie Lansdowne will be teaching two classes in April.  Lots of members will want to take these classes so be sure to get  your registration form in on time . 1/14 SF Postcard Beads   Start thinking about making a bead for the annual Southern Flames postcard that will be included in the Gathering postcard set.  The bead will be due at the April meeting but it would great to have it earlier.  You can see an enlarged version of  the 2004 postcard on our home page as well as postcards from previous  years.  This years photography and postcard design will be done by Sara Hoyt..
