Stevi Belle Lottery Form

Southern Flames is sponsoring classes with internationally renowned bead artist Stevi Belle.  There will be two 2-day sessions offered:  September 11 & 12 (Saturday/Sunday) and September 13 & 14 (Monday/Tuesday), 2004.  Both class sessions will cover the same material.

Stevi’s two day class will use various glasses…Moretti, Thompson Enamels, Bullseye, Kugler, Zimmerman…in a variety of forms…sheet glass, rods, power, frit, strips, shards and dichroic sizzle sticks.  This variety of materials allows for the creation of complex and exciting surface decoration and texture.  As you learn to work with the diverse palette of materials, Stevi notes, you will naturally discover your own voice and creativity that is an essential element for every creative individual.

Stevi’s interaction with other bead artists led her and four other women to organize the first bead Gathering in Prescott, Arizona, in 1993.  This Gathering was the spark that created today’s International Society of Glass Beadmakers.  To see more of Stevi’s work, visit her website at http://www.belleisimoglass.com or flip through almost any book on glass lampworking to see her gorgeous beads.

Stevi’s class will cost $325 for Southern Flames members in good standing and $350 for non-members.  Members in good standing will have precedence for class placement in a lottery at the meeting on Wednesday, July 21^st, at Beads by Design.  A member is in good standing by being current on dues and not owing any late fees to the Resource Center.

Lottery Details 

• Registration will begin with a lottery for interested Southern Flames members in good standing on July 21, 2004 at the Southern Flames meeting at Beads by Design.  Each interested member will complete a Stevi Belle Lottery Form.  You may complete and bring the attached form or additional forms will be available at the meeting.  If the member is selected in the lottery, he or she will need to provide a check in the amount of $325 at the meeting to accept the space in the class.

• There will be eight spots available in each class session.  Once all sixteen spots are filled, names will continue to be drawn for waiting list positions.  A lottery participant wishing to accept a position on the waiting list must also tender a check at the meeting for the full class fee.  Checks for wait-listed participants will not be deposited unless a class position opens for that person.  In the past, we have had students withdraw due to various emergencies and have actually placed the last person on the waiting list in the class.

• If you would like to be included in the lottery but will not be able to attend the meeting, you may mail a check payable to Southern Flames in the amount of $325 along with a completed copy of the attached Stevi Belle Lottery Form to Southern Flames, 311 Peachtree Hills Avenue, Box 11A, Atlanta, GA  30305.  Your check must be received prior to the July 21 meeting. You will get a confirmation that your check and form has been received and you will be put into the lottery drawing.  If you do not receive a confirmation, we did not receive your check and form and you will not be in the lottery. 

• Checks from mail-in lottery participants will be returned if the member is not selected in the lottery, unless the member indicated he or she would like to be on the waiting list.  In that event, checks will be held but not deposited unless a class position becomes available.

• If at any time a wait-listed participant would like to be removed from the waiting list, he or she may notify Kim Runge and she will return that person’s check and remove them from the waiting list.

• The check for the class is non-refundable.  If your name is drawn and you cannot attend the class, your spot will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.  You will be refunded your money if someone can take your spot.  This must go through the Treasurer and the waiting list.  You may not directly sell or give your spot to another individual unless all wait-listed persons have declined to fill the spot.

• The Stevi Belle Lottery Form includes your name, address, phone number, email address, preference of class session, and whether you wish to be placed on the waiting list if your name is not initially drawn for a spot in the class. 

If you can attend either class, you may indicate a preference, but could be put in your second choice class to allow Southern Flames members with less flexible schedules to still attend a class.  As an example:  I say I can attend either session but prefer Sat/Sun.  I’m selected and there is space in Sat/Sun, so I’m put in Sat/Sun.  Later, in the lottery when spaces are only left in Mon/Tues, someone is selected that can only come Sat/Sun, so I would be moved to Mon/Tues so that person could attend, too. 

If the class is not full after the lottery… 

• Once the lottery is complete, if the classes are not full, an email will be sent to Southern Flames members giving them one additional week to register for the open spots on a first come, first placed basis via checks to Kim Runge either in person or at the address above.

• If the classes are not full after the additional week of open registration for members, registration will be opened to the general glass community via web forums, emails, etc.
