Southern
Flames is excited to sponsor classes with Brent Graber! Two 2-day
sessions will be offered: Thursday-Friday, Febryary 21 & 22 and Saturday-Sunday,
February 23 & 24, 2008. Both class sessions will cover the same material.
The cost of the class will be
$260.00.
Class
Description:
"BORO
FUN! We will be working with boro color and how to achieve amazing
bright colors. This includes cane work, layers and striking. We will cover
sculpting techniques and learn to use gravity and heat to shape glass. We will
cover florals and other implosion designs. If there is time, we can do some
hollow beads or vessels."
Borosilicate color rod will be provided, but students will be required to
provide their own clear borosilicate glass. A specific materials/supply list
will be sent to students after the lottery.
Experience level:
Basic lampworking
skills required, i.e., one year or so on the torch – enough to be familiar with
the torch, tools and hot glass.
Attached are some
photos of Brent's gorgeous work. For more information, check out Brent's
website at
www.brentgraber.com.
Placement of students in the classes will be by lottery, open only to Southern
Flames members in good standing, as detailed below.
Lottery Details:
-
The lottery for
class placement will be held at the Southern Flames meeting at 7:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, Dec 12.
-
Prior to the lottery, each interested member must complete a Brent Graber
Lottery Form and provide a check for $260.00 made out to Southern
Flames.
-
You
may complete the Lottery Form and bring it, along with your check, to the
July 18 meeting (additional lottery forms will be available at the meeting).
-
If
you would like to be included in the lottery, but will not be able to attend
the July 18 meeting, you may mail your completed Lottery Form along with a
check payable to Southern Flames in the amount of $260.00, to Southern
Flames, c/o Kim Runge, 311 Peachtree Hills Avenue, Box 11A, Atlanta, GA
30305. Your check must be received by Kim no later than Tuesday,
DEC 11. Kim will email you a confirmation when she has
received your check and form, and you will be entered into the lottery
drawing. If you do not receive a confirmation from Kim within a reasonable
time, please double check with her prior to the lottery as to whether or not
she received your check and form.
-
Eight spots will be available in each class session. Once all sixteen spots
are filled, names will continue to be drawn for waiting list positions.
Please note on your Lottery Form if you wish to be placed on waiting list
status. Checks for waiting list participants will not be deposited unless a
class position opens for that person. In the past, we have often had
students withdraw due to various emergencies, and have actually been able to
place the last person on the waiting list in the class, so there is a
possibility that slots may become available to those on the waiting list.
-
Checks received from lottery participants who do not win class seats in the
lottery will be destroyed unless the member indicates he or she would like
to be on the waiting list. In that event, checks will be held but not
deposited unless a class position becomes available.
-
If
at any time a waiting list participant would like to be removed from the
waiting list, he or she may notify Kim Runge, and she will return that
person's check and remove him/her from the waiting list.
-
Once
you have been placed in a class, the class fee is non-refundable. However,
if you must ultimately withdraw from the class, your spot will be offered to
those on the waiting list. You will be refunded your money only if someone
takes over your spot. This transaction must go through the Treasurer and
the waiting list process. You may not directly sell or give your spot to
another individual unless all wait-listed persons have declined to fill the
spot.
-
The
Lottery Form asks for your name, address, phone number, email address,
preference of class session, and whether you wish to be placed on the
waiting list if your name is not initially drawn for a spot in the class.
-
If
you can attend either class, you may indicate a preference, but understand
that you may be placed in your second choice session in order to accommodate
another Southern Flames member with less schedule flexibility. For
instance: You may indicate that you can attend either class session but
prefer Saturday/Sunday. At the time your name is drawn space is available in
the Saturday/Sunday class so you are put in that session per your
preference. However, later in the lottery the name of someone who can
attend only the Saturday/Sunday session may be drawn when seats are
open only in the Thursday/Friday session. In that case, since you indicated
your ability to attend the Thursday/Friday class, you will be moved to that
session to accommodate the person who can only attend the Saturday/Sunday
class.
If
the class is not full after the lottery...
If
any class seats are open after completion of the lottery process, an email will
be sent to Southern Flames members announcing an additional one-week period
during which registration for the open spots will be available only to Southern
Flames members, on a first come, first placed basis, by delivery of checks to
Kim Runge, either in person or by mail to the address above.
If
class seats remain open after the additional week of members-only registration,
the class will be opened to the general glass community via announcements in web
forums, emails, etc.
If
you have any questions about this class or about the lottery, contact Southern
Flames Treasurer Kim Runge at
