This is a unique opportunity to
work with Heather to discuss how you want to develop your style in
beadmaking. You will learn to work smarter and more efficiently so you
get the maximum out of your precious torch time.
We will take time to discuss and
develop design ideas that students can easily continue to expand in
their own studios.
Heather will take the mystery out
of clear casing, stringer work and shaping a disc. She will show you her
no-fail way to successful hollow beads. You will learn the magic to
making the perfect black & white twist then applying that twist and
making the ends match!
It’s time to fine tune your
skills and take your work to the next level. Please join us for this
exciting class.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
Both
classes are for
Intermediate/Advanced students who have had a good amount of practice
working on the torch.
TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:
Students will supply their own glass (Morretti/Effetre) and tools to be used in
the class. Please note that in addition to standard tools, the Marble
Beadmaking class will require students to have a marble mold, and the Advanced
class will require students to have 6 or more ¼” and 2 or more ½” hollow
mandrels. A more specific materials/supply list will be sent to students after
the lottery.

Placement of students in the
classes will be by lottery, open only to Southern Flames members in good
standing, as detailed below.
Lottery Details:
- The lottery for class placement
will be held at the Southern Flames meeting at Beads by Design at
7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
- Since two
separate classes are being offered,
there will be
two lotteries
and there are
separate lottery
forms for each class.
Be sure you are submitting the lottery form for the specific class you
want! We will hold the lottery for the most popular of the two classes
first, determined by larger number of lottery entries.
- Prior to the
lottery, each interested member must complete a Lottery Form and provide
a check for
$325.00
per class
made out to Southern Flames.
- You may bring
the completed Lottery Form(s), along with your check, to the lottery
drawing (see date and location above -- additional lottery forms will be
available at that time).
- If you would
like to be included in the lottery, but will not be able to attend the
lottery drawing, you may mail your completed Lottery Form(s) along with
a check payable to Southern Flames in the amount of e325.00 per class,
to the Southern Flames Treasurer, Martha Fuerst, at the address below:
Your check
must be
received
by
Martha no later than
August 14.
Martha
will email you a confirmation when she has received your check and
form(s), and you will be entered into the lottery drawing(s). If you do
not receive a confirmation within a reasonable time, please contact
Martha prior to the lottery to confirm whether or not your check and
lottery form(s) have been received. Martha’s email address is

- Eight spaces
will be available in each class. Once all spaces in the class are
filled, names will continue to be drawn for waitlist positions. Please
note on the Lottery Form if you wish to be placed on waitlist status.
Checks for waitlist participants will not be deposited unless a class
position opens for that person. In the past, we have often had students
withdraw due to various emergencies, and have actually been able to
place the last person on the waitlist in the class, so there is a
possibility that slots may become available to those on the waitlist.
- Checks received
from lottery participants who do not win class seats in the lottery will
be destroyed unless the member indicates he or she would like to be on
the waitlist. In that event, checks will be held but not deposited
unless a class position becomes available.
- If at any time a
waitlist participant would like to be removed from the waitlist, he or
she may notify the Treasurer, and she will destroy or return that
person's check and remove him/her from the waitlist.
- Once you have
been placed in a class, the class fee is non-refundable. However, if
you are ultimately unable to attend the class, you should notify the
Treasurer and/or the Event Coordinator, and your space will be offered
to those on any waitlist. You will be refunded your money only if
someone takes over and pays for your class space. The process of
filling vacated class spaces must go through the Treasurer/Event
Coordinator and the waitlist process. You may not directly sell or give
your space to another individual unless all waitlisted persons have
declined to take over the space.
- At the beginning
of the class you will be asked to complete a liability waiver; only
those who complete and sign the waiver may attend the class. You will
not be eligible for a refund of the class fee if you refuse to sign the
waiver. In addition, Southern Flames reserves the right to place class
photos, which may include pictures of you and/or your class work, on its
website.
- The Lottery Form
asks for your name, address, phone number, email address, preference of
class session, and whether you wish to be placed on the waitlist if your
name is not initially drawn for a space in the class.
If the class is not full
after the lottery...
If any class seats
are open after completion of the lottery process, an email will be sent to
Southern Flames members announcing an additional period (usually about a week)
during which registration for the open spaces will remain available only to
Southern Flames members, on a first come, first placed basis, by delivery of
checks to the Treasurer, either in person or by mail to the address above.
If class seats remain
open after the additional members-only registration period, class registration
will be opened to the general glass community at
$350.00 via announcements in web forums,
emails, etc.
Of course, Southern
Flames members may still enroll for available spaces after registration has been
opened to the public, but they will no longer be given preference and spaces
will be filled on a first come-first served basis.
