Southern Flames is excited to sponsor classes with Heather Trimlett!  Two 2-day sessions will be offered:  Thursday-Friday, October 25 & 26 and Saturday-Sunday, October 27 & 28, 2007.  The Thursday and Friday classes will cover buttons, and the Saturday and Sunday classes will cover hollow formed vessels and beads.  The cost of the class will be $260.00 for members and $285 for non-members.

Thursday and Friday BUTTONS

"Need to button up that overcoat?  Here is the class for you!  We will start with one, two and four hole buttons; we will move on to the various shanks that you can attach to a cabochon and making button holes made with a tungsten pick.  The second day will include confetti buttons and paperweight buttons.  If you are looking for a new market in the lampworking field, this could be the class for you!

The button class is the perfect place to practice that ever-challenging PUNTY!

Saturday and Sunday VESSELS and HOLLOW BEADS

            "The ancient Egyptians used small amphorae to store their essential oils and cosmetics.  We will replicate these wonderful vessels with a contemporary flair.  Students will learn to make vessels using a hollow mandrel as well as the core form method.  Students will detail vessels with their choice of latticino, enamels, stringer work, and raking.  They will also have plenty of time to experiment and develop new designs for their latticino repertories.  Finally, we can not forget the stoppers.  They are just too much fun!

As long as we are working on hollow forms we will practice our hollow beads and their shapes too."

Experience level: 

This class is recommended for the intermediate flame worker.  A two-day format will give time to cover all of the above techniques and more

Students will supply their own glass to be used in the class (mostly standard colors of Morretti/Effetre) and standard tools.  A specific materials/supply list will be sent to students after the lottery.
