March 2006 MEETING NOTES

February 2006 MEETING NOTES

The February Meetingof Southern Flames was held on February 18, 2006, at Beads by Design.  The highlight of the meeting was a demonstration of a hollow Lion Fish bead by visiting instructor Pam Dugger.  Pam created the fish with Bullseye glass.  She uses a mandrel with counter-weights to make the large bead easier to manage.  She also uses a Creation Station and an Arrow Springs hand rest to steady her hands.  Pam showed us the shaping and decorating of the fish and how to make fins that make the fish appear to be swimming.  She donated the Lion Fish for the Silent Auction in March, so you have a chance for the fish to be yours.  We really appreciate the demo, the donation and the excellent classes that Pam taught for us.

Southern Flames also showed that we have heart with the donation of 54 purple heart beads for Beads of Courage.  They were greatly appreciated.  Here is an excerpt of a note from Jean Baruch, the President and Program Director of Beads of Courage:
Thank you so much!  You cannot believe how grateful we are for the purple hearts.  Our inventory has been very low due to the success of our national outreach efforts.  The artistry of the beads donated is so incredible too!  They will surely delight children who receive them.  The Southern Flames group surely has some talent.  They are the coolest purple hearts we have received from a group.

You can see pictures from Pam's classes and demo, as well as pictures of the Purple Heart beads in the scrapbook on our website at:  http://www.southernflames.org/FlamesScrapbook.htm
