  Presents  Sara Sally LaGrand

January 21-22, 2011 and January 24, 2011

Southern Flames is excited to sponsor classes with Sara Sally LaGrand!  One 2-day session on Creativity and the Glass Corsage and one 1-day session on Silvered Glass will be offered:  Friday-Saturday, January 21-22, 2011 and Monday, January 24, 2011.  The cost of the classes will be $300 (Members) and $180 (Members) respectively.

Creativity and the Glass Corsage  Jan 21-22

Creativity and the Glass Corsage: This 2-day class will focus on the creation of one or more glass corsages. The first day will be the lampworking portion, followed by wire working and assemblage the second day. The students will learn 5 sculptural shapes; the pod, the crater, the disc, the berry and the wing. Experimentation with color combinations will be encouraged. Students will be shown how to create glass sculptures using creative methods with the final design in mind. They will be making glass corsages of their OWN creation, not the exact piece shown. Each piece created will be unique to them. Sara Sally will demonstrate methods to make the necklace, pins and bracelets.

Students will be required to bring their own tools and glass (104 only) to class. Students will be asked to email the names of the glass colors they intend to bring and Sara Sally will bring a color or two for them to spice it up and make them think beyond their own color choices.

 Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Silvered Glass Jan 24

Silvered Glass: This one-day class will cover the most cost effective ways to use the highly silvered 104 glass including decoration. Precision 104 from Northstar, Double Helix, Trautman Art Glass as well as parts of the Vetrofond and Moretti palette are selected for most interesting results. Several projects will enhance the student’s ability to test colors, mix colors and apply those techniques to bead decoration. Each student will take home a handbook filled with test results utilizing stringer techniques. Each student will gain knowledge of how to test colors for maximum results. Stop wasting that expensive glass and learn how to use it effectively!

Students will supply their own non-silver glass to be used in the class and standard tools. Silver glass will be provided by Southern Flames.  A specific materials/supply list will be sent to students after the lottery.

Experience level: Beyond Beginners. Students should have completed some form of basic glass bead making instruction, either self–taught or otherwise.

Attached is Sara Sally LaGrand’s bio and some photos of her beads.  For more information, check out her website at www.sarasallylagrand.com.

If class seats remain open after the additional members-only registration period, class registration will be opened to the general glass community via announcements in web forums, emails, etc.    Of course, Southern Flames members may still enroll for available spaces after registration has been opened to the public, but they will no longer be given preference and spaces will be filled on a first come-first served basis.
